The Mercury reported the Wollongong restaurant is a "50-50 chance" of closing as the Criniti Restaurant Group went into administration.
On Wednesday the administrators confirmed it was one of five stores that would close.
The news sparked hundreds of comments on the Mercury Facebook page.
Most Mercury readers weren't surprised the place hadn't been a success.
"The food was nothing more than bistro quality in an area where there is some good Italian restaurants," Adam Baines wrote of his only visit.
"The service was terribly slow due to insufficient wait staff to service the customers."
Luis Urruita only went there once as well.
"We waited for about 15 minute for someone to notice us and assign us a table and no one did," he said.
Some readers thought the prices were too high for the city.
"It's way too expensive for Wollongong," wrote Laura Thomson. "We aren't Sydney, they need to rethink that."
Chanelle Gulevska had been to Criniti's Darling Harbour and said Wollongong didn't stack up.
"The food is disgusting in the Wollongong Criniti's" she wrote. "Big difference to Darling Harbour and other locations."
Annette Morgan wasn't surprised to hear the restaurant was likely to close.
"Only been once but would never go again! Food was tasteless, not cooked properly and extremely expensive for what you got."
"Expensive bad food never tends to do well," wrote Roy Zanetti.
Snez Tankoska claimed to have ordered a very expensive steak and felt it was definitely not worth the money.
"We paid $90 for a steak which was meant to be amazing," she wrote.
"Instead it was tough and cold and certainly not cooked the way I requested."
Of the 700-plus comments there were only a handful who liked the restaurant.
"Noooo, that is our favourite place to eat," wrote Natasha Tamburini.
