NSW Ambulance Inspector Norm Rees said paramedics were initially called to a premises above Thai Massage on Daisy Street to reports there was a man in cardiac arrest.
On arrival, they were told a stabbing had occurred and one of the men involved had relocated to his mother's unit around the corner, also on Daisy Street.
When paramedics arrived at the unit, they found the man in a critical condition and began issuing emergency treatment for a serious three-to-four centimetre wound above his heart.
The man was transported via ambulance to nearby Guest Park around 11.30am, where paramedics and ambulance rescue helicopter doctors worked to stablise him for almost an hour.
He was then flown to St George Hospital in a critical but stable condition.
According to emergency services reports, another man presented at the emergency department at Wollongong Hospital, also with a stab wound about 10.30am.
His condition is unknown, but police are believed to have seized his car as part of a crime scene.
The two incidents are believed to be related, reports said.
