Alcohol and your body have a weird relationship. Your body fast tracks alcohol so this substance (worth 7 calories per gram) is burnt before carbohydrates, fats and proteins.
So a diet that is lower in alcohol has less initial calories to burn, essentially allowing you to start to burn body fat a lot earlier.
There is not only this process of thought, but also what is consumed when the alcoholic beverages start to flow. This includes chips, nuts, burgers, high calorie dense and sodium enriched foods that are very high in salt which have you drinking more. It becomes a vicious circle.
To summarise, you can enjoy a drink, but do so in moderation and ensure you are eating a healthy diet and exercising.
