Not just because it would be best suit the long, smooth paths his sleight traverses across the sky, but also for a simpler reason: his size.
You'll be able to see for yourself this Saturday morning at Corrimal Beach as Squiers revs up the Illawarra's own Surfing Santas event to raise money for youth mental health support.
At first he's just enjoyed getting dressed up as Santa with his son Mannix, and going for a Christmas surf in theme.
But now Squiers, who runs the Illawarra Surf Academy, wants build its purpose.
"Everyone's ready to get into the spirit," he said.
"I noticed a surf school in Sydney doing it, and I thought that was a great idea. I wanted to start something that would run every year, and was just a celebration of Christmas in our way of going surfing."
Squiers will be at Corrimal beach surf club from 8.30am. He hopes participants will be there by 9am for a group photo, after which they'll go out into the surf.
"Everyone's going to have a big muckaround; we'll have a photographer there - it's either a santa hat or suit."
Entrants pay a $10 donation - that's the fundraiser - with all the money going to Headspace, the youth mental health support service.
There will prizes, including a $500 softboard.
"The youth are the next generation," Squiers said. "These days, when you see how much pressure there is from social media, there's things coming from all different angles at the kids.
"If we can support them through those pressures we can do some real good."
