But Keira MP Ryan Park was happy to see workers deliver a Christmas present to Corrimal High School, and remove the "prison-like" barbed wire fencing.

In November Mr Park hit out at at the NSW government's refusal to remove barbed wire fences from two schools in his electorate.

"It is a great outcome. No school should look like a jail and Corrimal High in particular is a school that has had it tough over the last 12 months with a fire late last year and I'm really delighted that this sort of advocacy has worked," he said.

"It will make it a lot more appealing place for students, for teachers and for the community."

The removal of the fencing is the latest good news for the school, which is expecting a 30 per cent increase in Year 7 enrolments next year.

Mr Park plans to continue to "hassle" the Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell, her office and the Department of Education to also remove the barbed-wire fencing from Bellambi Public School.

"It is another school with a large barb-wired fencing," he said.

"It is not appropriate nowadays. It wouldn't be suitable for any type of educational institution. It it certainly not suitable for a school. That is certainly next on my list."
