Bulli secured a second successive win in Monday's leg from Moruya to Tuross Head, backing up their victory on Sunday as they look to win their second straight George Bass crown.
However, team sweep Geloven said the defending champions were well tested by the second-placed Vikings on Monday.
"It was very close today, we had a very good tussle with the Moruya Vikings," he said.
"This is the start we wanted but we've got to keep it going now. I know the Moruya boys aren't going to go away. They're big, strong and fit boys so it's great competition at the moment - it's very exciting."
Day two was the shortest leg (19km) in this year's marathon, with Bulli able to rest two members from its eight-man crew.
"I saved a couple of my bigger boys but they're back in tomorrow. My four usual rowers from the A crew are getting a good workout," Geloven said.
"There wasn't much wind at all and a tailing nor-easter [on Monday]. We were across the swell a lot of the time until we turned and headed into Tuross. And then you could catch the nor-east run, but it was a tough slog across the swell for a long time."
Monday was a strong day for Bulli members with Lachlan O'Grady winning his second successive leg in the men's spec ski class in this year's marathon. The Bulli masters crew finished second while the club's super vets crew took fourth place on day two.
The George Bass Marathon continues on Tuesday with a leg from Tuross Head to Narooma.
"I'm not sure what's happening tomorrow, there has been talk we might be in late because of the swell about to come up at Tuross Beach," Geloven said.
"So we'll see what happens there but I haven't heard anything [officially] yet."
