With a large contingent of the region's horses running at Tuesday's Kembla raceday, Markwell's three entrants are among a small contingent of Illawarra horses racing on Saturday.
Markwell, who has spent the week on the Gold Coast at the Magic Millions Carnival, is looking to take out the day's top race, a benchmark 70 handicap.
The trainer has two runners, Grand Bernini and Miss Jenny, in the race, with Theresa Bateup's Monegal and Kerry Parker's Tenorino also listed.
Monegal is Bateup's only runner of the day, with Parker also entering Tampering in a 1600 metre maiden plate.
The 1200m race marks a return to Kembla Grange for Grand Bernini, with the four-year-old running twice at Randwick in December.
With a return to provincial grade, the stable is confident of his chances.
While the race is Grand Bernini's third of the campaign, Saturday will mark Miss Jenny's first run since July. Markwell, however, was pleased with how the mare trialled at Canterbury late last month.
Markwell is also looking for Pioneer to break its maiden this weekend, the Ross Williams owned and bred horse racing for the first time since March 2018.
While the stable has faced some challenges with Pioneer, expectations are high the five-year-old can achieve great results this campaign.
Pioneer will jump from barrier 11 in the 1000m maiden plate.
Markwell's Esteem Spirit is set to race in Sydney on Saturday, the gelding hoping to bounce back from a disappointing run in last month's Summer Provincial Series final.
Esteem Spirit will line up in barrier five for the 1500m benchmark 78 Ranvet Handicap and Markwell is optimistic the five-year-old can achieve a good result from the favourable barrier.
Also racing at Randwick on Saturday are the Robert and Luke Price-trained Cuban Royale and Spectre.
Cuban Royale will line up alongside Esteem Spirit in the 1500m handicap, while Spectre will contest a benchmark 70 1600m handicap.
