The Gwenda Markwell-trained horse struggled in two races at Randwick in December, however he had no such troubles on his home track.

Despite being caught three wide, no cover for much of the trip, Grand Bernini charged over the top of his rivals to claim the win in the 1200 metre conditional benchmark 70 handicap.

Jockey Travis Wolfgram produced a great ride to keep the horse comfortable throughout the journey.

While no plans have been locked in for the eye-catching white stallion, Markwell is looking at sending Grand Bernini to Sydney for a mid-week metropolitan race. Given the way he finished the race, an increase in distance is also likely.

This campaign is Grand Bernini's first with Markwell, the China Horse Club Racing-owned stallion transferring north from Ciaron Maher and David Eustace's care.

Wolfgram's win came as Tom Sherry had a superb day at Kembla Grange, the apprentice claiming three winners in the seven-race card.

Sherry opened his account when he rode Money Magic to second in the opening race of the day before he took out the second, Go Fish Go winning a 1400m CG&E class one handicap.

The apprentice saw his ride in the third scratched, however he made up for it by riding Fulmina to a comfortable win in the fourth, a 1600m maiden plate.

Sherry then finished his day with victory in the last, Merlinite winning the 2000m benchmark 64 handicap.
