DPI/Fisheries have requested that anglers and beachgoers, to keep a diligent eye for 'minipat' satellite tags that are due to pop up over the next two weeks or so.
The tags were attached to a number of white and tiger sharks six months ago along the NSW coast as part of the NSW Government's Shark Management Strategy.
These tags will provide valuable scientific date and hopefully give depth and water temperature every three seconds for six months before they come to the surface and relay the data via satellite and the tags are able to give a complete data set of the movements of tiger sharks during this time.
New Year's Eve one tag came ashore on the Gold Coast at Coolangatta so check out the site map of the satellite returns and see what you can find.
