Zach Sherrell appeared in Wollongong Local Court for his release application after he was arrested at Lakeview Hotel Motel in Oak Flats on Friday night.

Police documents tendered to court reveal officers recognised Mr Sherrell sitting in the poker machine room and questioned him, knowing he did not have a current driver's licence, because he was wearing a black motorcycle jacket and shorts.

When asked how he arrived at the hotel, Sherrell, aged 37, allegedly told police a friend drove him and he was a passenger on the back of the bike.

Police checked the number plate of the motorcycle revealing it was registered to a blue Hysong bike which was stolen from a home in Towradgi on June 13.

A check on the motorbike showed it was a white Triumph Tiger bike that had been stolen from a North Wollongong garage between May 25 and June 8.

Police have not identified who stole the bike.

Officers viewed footage from the hotel which clearly showed Sherrell allegedly ride the bike into the car park then enter the hotel.

Sherrell was arrested and allegedly told police he was given the bike by a friend, and that he gave the key to another friend who was already inside the hotel after police initially spoke to him.

In bail court on Saturday, Sherrell's lawyer said the accused wanted to be released into the community to continue his treatment program for stimulant control as well as continue completing his 300 hours of community service in landscaping.

Those conditions are a requirement of his intensive community corrections order imposed for an aggravated break and enter in 2018.

He is also on bail for dishonesty charges.

The police prosecutor opposed bail and said the case against Sherrell was "strong" because he was clearly seen on CCTV footage riding up to the hotel.

Sherrell was charged with drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, two counts of goods in personal custody suspected of being stolen and being unlicenced.

His case will return to Wollongong Local Court on February 5.
