As early as 7am, thousands of people had already descended around Lake Illawarra for the increasing popular breakfast at Reddall Reserve.
This was followed by a citizenship ceremony, presentation of the Shellharbour Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Awards.
Tasha Armour and Tamieka Garcia were the popular respective winners.
Joanna Savill's Australia Day ambassador address was also well received.
The Shellharbour Australia Day Ambassador is one of Australia's most widely respected food personalities.
Savill has spent the last two decades exploring and promoting the extraordinary diversity of Australian food and wine - from restaurants and chefs to food artisans and producers.
Kora Naughton and Aodhan also performed during the day.
Organisers said the crowd were well behaved and everyone seemed to enjoy the celebrations.
