Emergency services were called to the scene at the intersection of Wattle Road and Wallaroo Drive just before 6pm.
Police have been told the teen was struck by a Nissan sedan as he crossed Wattle Road on his bike.
Update:
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said the boy sustained head and chest injuries, multiple broken bones and arterial bleeding.
The rescue helicopter was called and, during the treatment, ran out of supplies of blood. A police car had to be sent to Shellharbour Hospital to pick up more blood supplies.
Just after 7.30pm the teen was airlifted to Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, in a critical condition, where he later died.
The female driver, aged 25, was not injured and participated in mandatory blood and urine testing.
A crime scene has been established and the Crash Investigation Unit will investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Wattle Road remains partially closed at the intersection of Benson Avenue on Wednesday morning. Flowers were laid at the site of the accident.
The ambulance spokesman said the teen was not wearing a helmet at the time.
