This weekend's Illawarra surf lifesaving championships have been called off.
The Thirroul carnival - originally scheduled for February 8 - was postponed due to dangerous surf conditions.
Organisers had planned to run the event this Saturday, but have cancelled the championship due to forecast several weather and surf conditions
According to Surf Life Saving Illawarra's Facebook page, organisers sought advice from a wide range of sources including NSW Surf Life Saving and Wollongong City Council Lifeguards before announcing the cancellation on Wednesday.
