The winners in all this would have to be the bass as they have been long suffering with low water and poor oxygen but the rains have replenished the flowing waters and re-energised them.
That initial runoff would have caused a few natural pollution issues with ashes and dead organic litter, but the same rising water levels have enabled the bass to move onto the previous high and dry shallow riverside areas as the water rose and exposed heaps of ground based insects, worms, beetles and the like. Remember these iconic Aussie natives deserve respect and CPR - catch, photo release, is a great way to continue to preserve them for the future as they are simply too good to be caught just once.
After those seas abated, the snapper have moved right in close to the rocks and guys tossing large plastics have fooled some solid reds into their eskys.
Okay you might lose a few rigs on the cunjii and rocks but to see a lit up with snapper at your feet is memorable.
The Shoalhaven is presently playing host to several tonnes of silt, soil, vegetation and more trees and branches than you can count.
Time and tides will eventually win out but the fishing basically has closed down. However, crabs and prawns should be triggered into their late season spawning run.
St Georges Basin turned on a few good fishing days last week and maybe try to fish the edges of the feeder creeks where the flush stained water mixes with the clear stuff.
