In late 2019, police started an investigation following reports a woman had been assaulted on numerous occasions during a previous relationship.
Following extensive inquiries by the Southern Region Domestic Violence High Risk Offender Team, a 24-year-old man was arrested at a correctional facility at Silverwater.
He was charged with six counts of choke person intend to commit indictable offence (DV), two counts of take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage (DV), armed with intent commit indictable offence, six counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), six counts of common assault (DV), stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic), three counts of destroy or damage property (DV), aggravated enter dwelling with intent - knowing people there, and reckless grievous bodily harm (DV).
Police allege the man physically abused the woman on numerous occasions between 2015 and 2017 in the Dapto area, while they were in a relationship.
The man has been refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Thursday.
