Police officers went to a Myuna Way unit about 2pm, and after an alleged short struggle, arrested a 27-year-old man for a driving matter.
Officers searched the unit before finding and seizing a firearm.
The man was taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with resist officer in execution of duty, escape police custody, possess unregistered firearm, not keep firearm safely, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permission.
He was refused bail and will appear in Wollongong Local Court on Friday.
