Emergency services were called to a home on Virginia Street after a 24-year-old man was found suffering a stab wound to his abdomen about 4.20am on Sunday.
Police were told the 24-year-old man went to the home before a physical altercation took place with a 22-year-old male resident.
During an altercation, the 24-year-old man was allegedly stabbed.
A 27-year-old man arrived at the Virginia Street address shortly after where he and the 24-year-old man allegedly armed themselves with metal poles and smashed the windows of a car parked at the home before leaving the scene.
Wollongong Police District officers went to the scene and spoke with the 27-year-old man walking along nearby Bourke Street.
The older man told police about the injured 24-year-old man driving past, before he was stopped by police at Keira Street, Wollongong.
NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to treat the man for his injuries before taking him to Wollongong Hospital where he underwent surgery for stab wound.
Police attended the Virginia Street home and spoke with the 22-year-old man before he attempted to flee the scene.
After a short foot pursuit, he was arrested by police and taken to Wollongong Hospital for monitoring due to his level of intoxication.
Later that morning, about 9am, police attended the home of the 27-year-old man in Thirroul where he was arrested for his alleged role in the damage to the vehicle.
He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with malicious damage.
He is expected to face court at a later date.
Upon being released from hospital, the 22-year-old man was arrested and charged with reckless grievous bodily harm - in company (domestic violence).
He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Monday.
The 24-year-old man is expected to undergo further surgery today.
Police detectives will continue to investigate the matter.
