Officers saw a man riding a trail bike on the Princes Highway at Yallah about 1pm on Sunday before the rider was stopped and the bike was found to be unroadworthy and unregistered.
The 32-year-old man, from Albion Park, was also a disqualified driver.
He was arrested and charged with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, use unregistered vehicle and use uninsured vehicle.
The man will appear on March 20 at Wollongong Local Court.
Trail bike officers were patrolling Cordeaux Road at Mount Kembla on Thursday evening when they came across a group riding unregistered trail bikes along the road.
Police stopped one of the riders, a 14-year-old boy, who was speeding and not wearing a helmet.
He was arrested and will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
Lake Illawarra's community safety officer Sergeant Peter Northey said the arrests were a timely reminder to anyone in possession of a trail bike to adhere to road rules.
"For those who own a trail bike, please get to know the road rules," he said.
"Remember it is illegal to ride an unregistered trail bike on NSW roads.
"It is not only unlawful, it is a big distraction to drivers and other road users, not to mention not very safe.
"It is extremely dangerous for the riders and other road users."
Sgt Northey said members of the community were "fed up" and "had enough" of illegal trail bike riders, and the unit would be out in force to catch them.
"People don't want the unregistered riders out on the road," Sgt Northey said.
"They are a big disturbance to the community.
"We do regularly get calls to the station and via Crime Stoppers of reported trail bike riding.
"We encourage residents to keep reporting it.
"Let us know where the riders are, where they have come from and where they go to.
"We take every call seriously and we will investigate the reports, and hopefully put a stop to it."
