Halloran won a penalty and curled in a fine shot from just outside the area to drive Adelaide's fightback from a 0-1 deficit to 2-1 lead away to Western Sydney on Friday.

Unfortunately for Halloran and his teammates that was as good as it got for the visitors, who conceded the last four goals of the game to slide to a 5-2 defeat at Bankwest Stadium.

Halloran has scored five goals in his last six games and his tally of seven for the campaign is his highest in a season.

"It helps when he's running out of contract," Verbeek quipped.

"But he's playing very well. He made a fantastic goal, he worked hard, so we hope he decides to stay but we'll see."

Adelaide, who suffered their sixth away loss in nine games, and dropped a spot to fifth, contributed greatly to their own downfall on Friday.

Their shambolic defending, especially in the first half, was described by Verbeek as Comedy Capers and he suggested Adelaide had played the role of Santa Claus almost two months after Christmas.

The Dutchman plans to make adjustments to his strategy for their game away to old rivals Melbourne Victory next Saturday.

"Today we had a strategy, it was not helping us and next time when we discuss strategy I have a different opinion, so we do it different than today," Verbeek said.

Verbeek did find some positives to take out of Friday's game, especially when his side moved forward.

"There were some very good things in the way we played," he said.

"You see how we made the combinations, our runs and how we create chances and making our goals, that I think is good quality," Verbeek said.

He gave last week's 15-year-old goalscoring hero Mohamed Toure another run off the bench on Friday and handed a debut to another second half substitute, Kusini Yengi
