Shooting and archery - which are optional sports for host cities - had originally been left out of the Birmingham 2022 schedule altogether.
Shooting's exclusion had been a major blow to India - who won a competition-high 16 medals (seven gold) at Gold Coast 2018 - and to a lesser extent Australia, who came second with nine medals (three gold).
It had prompted the Indian Olympic Association to threaten to boycott the Birmingham Games altogether, before instead offering to host the shooting and archery competitions - a decision ultimately approved by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF).
The compromise will see Chandigarh host the shooting and archery championships in January 2022 - six months before the main competition in Birmingham.
Medals won in India will be added to the medal table one week after the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony, in August 2022.
"Shooting has a long and proud history within the Commonwealth sports movement and the decision by the CGF is warmly welcomed by Shooting Australia and the wider target sports shooting community," Shooting Australia president Cath Fettell said.
"Representing Australia at a Commonwealth event is a major international career ambition for our athletes, and we are delighted they will again have the opportunity in 2022."
