The doors had been closed for some weeks but a 'for lease' sign has recently appeared out the front of the eatery, owned by Michael Yaglipinar and renowned for making some of the finest Turkish pide this side of Ankara.

The restaurant was a popular place with concert-goers for shows at the Wollongong Town Hall or Illawarra Performing Arts Centre.

Members of the bands about to play would be spotted munching on sucuklu or falafel prior to their performance. The restaurant was also an occasional venue for musical performances.

It continues what has been a February to forget for the leafy end of Crown St, which at the start of the month bid farewell to family-run M & Michaels Footwear, which had traded for 64 years.

M & Michaels owner Ben Porcheddu told the ABC customers had changed over the years, becoming less polite, and old-fashioned personal shoe retailing wasn't what many people sought.

The Turkish Paradise Facebook page at first included a mention of the decision being made to close the restaurant, but the page has now been taken down.

Before Turkish Paradise set itself up as an inner-city favourite, Mr Yaglipinar had the Northbeach Takeaway on Bourke St, famous for its "table of knowledge" frequented by developers and city council figures.
