"It's amazing - even people in their thirties and forties will tell me how their granny made them watch me," he laughed.
"I get a lot of, 'let's go shopping', I get a lot of 'what's in the gift shop?' and occasionally someone will say, 'sale of the century' in that voice."
Therefore, he decided to get his own back, parodying his past role on Sale of the Century during new live show, Senior Moments 2: Remember, Remember.
"We actually do an entire sketch, which is the longest sketch and certainly the funniest, called Senior of the Century," Barber said.
"Over the years I've been sent up by everybody... The comics all did it. Now I feel like I'm sending myself up, which is very good fun."
After two sell out national tours of the original hit, the Senior Moments 2: Remember, Remember comedy revue will be sweeping the nation with all new jokes and all old performers.
Barber, master satirist Max Gillies (The Gillies Report) and acclaimed actor and Silver Logie Winner John Howard (SeaChange, Packed to the Rafters, Packer & Sons) head the cast for 90 minutes of comedy sketches, songs and inspired senior silliness.
"I'm pretty much semi-retired these days, but my agent thought this would appeal to me, and it did," Barber said.
"Especially as it's been specifically written and produced for the older market.
"We're living in this tremendous youth culture, and sometimes older tastes get left by the wayside. So this is good, and it's proving to be popular."
Barber plays the role of the narrator in the show, and joked that "that means I hold the whole thing together".
He will celebrate his 80th birthday at the end of the tour in Perth later this month.
"If we have a show at night that finishes at 10pm, 10.30pm, we're not going to at our age hang around for long afterwards." he laughed.
"But we do manage a bevvie or two sometimes.
"(At the last show) it will be a very big celebration, because there's always a wrap party. And we'll also be celebrating my big 8-0."
Senior Moments 2 will be performed at the IPAC on March 13-15.
