The 133-year-old eyesore was fenced off, covered in graffiti and crumbling inside and out.
Today, thanks to friends and business partners Brendan Dowd and Stephen House, the Station Street building stands proud after being painstakingly restored and repurposed as restaurant-bar Resin Brewery.
Over the past 12 months, the heritage-listed site received a $2 million renovation by a team of local contractors including Eastbourne Builders and Smith & Bailey Masonry.
The exterior was given a respectful refresh, with the addition of an outdoor drinking area sympathetic to the original character of the property. Inside, the small rooms have been turned into cosy dining and drinking nooks - a trio of tan leather Chesterfields in one space, in-built timber seating and tables in another.
The main bar has undergone an industrial-style makeover, with polished concrete floors, plumbing pipe lights, and a bar set against a backdrop of stainless steel fermentation tanks.
