This call comes after Helensburgh doctor Annette Beaufils expressed concern about being able to properly treat patients when the road closed for eight weeks in June.

Mr Park said the pandemic meant people needed to be able get to their doctor quickly.

"This is the wrong time to be cutting off doctors from sick patients," Mr Park said.

"The extra time it will take for doctors and patients to access each other has the potential for very serious consequences."

He was calling for the work to be rescheduled; however, that could mean the slope stabilisation work won't be completed until winter 2021.

Transport for NSW has previously stated a preference to avoid carrying out the work over the warmer months, due to both the increase in holiday traffic along Lawrence Hargrave Drive and the need to keep the road clear for RFS vehicles in the event of bushfires.

A Transport for NSW spokeswoman said the Lawrence Hargrave Drive work "remains on schedule for delivery as planned".

"We have consulted with emergency services and will continue to work with them to mitigate the impacts," the spokeswoman said.

"Emergency services will ensure current service levels are maintained during this work."

She said emergency services could use mitigation measures such as placing emergency vehicles and staff resources on either side of the road closure or establishing on-call rosters for staff living in and around Stanwell Park-Helensburgh area.
