The annual awards are the only time all emergency services personnel, both paid and volunteer, are recognised in a combined awards program.
They are open to all emergency service agency personnel stationed in NSW, serving in either a paid capacity or volunteer:
NSW Police have their own awards but the RESCA Awards take in all other first responder agencies such as Fire and Rescue NSW, Marine Rescue NSW, Surf Life Saving NSW, NSW Ambulance Service, NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW State Emergency Service and NSW Volunteer Rescue Association.
The event that started with a regional awards in the Illawarra has since expanded into the ACT and keeps in with Rotary's motto of Service Above Self.
And helps Australian Rotary Health support a PhD Research Scholarship investigating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in emergency services personnel. As well as the provision of emergency and disaster preparedness training by a competitively selected vocational training team connected with a developing country in the Asia/Pacific Region.
The launch of the 2020 RESCA Awards on Wednesday follows a very busy six months for all emergency services who have been so visible and active in all communities across the state.
