The sky blues fell 1-0 to minor premiers Melbourne City in Saturday afternoon's grand final at AAMI Park.

In a see-sawing contest, a fortunate goal from Stephanie Catley in the 15^th minute proved the difference.

Catley was crossing to a teammate when Sydney FC goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe dived to stop the ball, which ricocheted off Bledsoe into the back of the net.

"Even though it was not the best of goals scored, I do think that's life sometimes - that's football, that happens sometimes," Hawkesby said.

"Obviously it's not an ideal result, but we put our hearts out there. We're very proud of our season and the way we played in the grand final. I'm proud of the girls."

Hawkesby has just finished her first season with Sydney FC. She will now take a break from playing, as Football NSW has suspended all competitions due to Coronavirus concerns.

When that suspension is lifted, the 19-year-old will take the field for Sydney Olympic in the Women's National Premier League One.

"Hopefully I can have a tiny break, but stay fit by doing isolated training," she said.
