'Aberteifi' (named after a small town in Wales) is located at 24 Barney Street, Kiama.
The home had a reserve price of $1.2 million. According to Pricefinder, it sold for $1,695,000 last month.
Sitting on 1073sqm, the three-bedroom house features a Victorian/Georgian-style facade with the decorative fretwork and veranda.
The home was originally built for George Lawrence Fuller circa 1860.
Mr Fuller was considered a pioneer and leading businessman in the area, and was the father of NSW Premier George Warburton Fuller.
The home was listed for sale after almost 80 years in the same family's care.
Family member, Sydney-based Edwina Ekins said they were "sad to see it go from the family", but were pleased it had been purchased by someone from the Kiama area.
"It was Mum's childhood house where she grew up, and they actually live on a farm in the country now," she said.
"It was being rented out.
"It's the sort of house that needs to be lived in and loved, and when you've got a farm to look after at the same time, it's just too much.
"We're happy that it's not going to be developed, a developer didn't buy it, and there will be some retaining of the heritage of it.
"That's important to us, as well as the Kiama region I think."
It is zoned R3 medium density with Kiama council heritage listing.
The selling agent was Andy Wharton from First National Coast & Country.
Mr Wharton said the home was part of an increasingly rare group of original properties remaining in the central area of Kiama.
