Life is often about perspective.
Often out of hardship, if only you see hardship, you will miss the opportunities that present themselves.
The ancient Chinese military text, The Art of War, is often quoted to this day as a source of inspiration and has been the world over by many leaders as a guide.
One of the famous quotes in the book reads as such.
In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity
At a time of shifting momentum and chaos, opportunities present themselves.
Now is a time of shifting chaos and momentum for the Illawarra's only truly national sporting team the Illawarra Hawks.
The Illawarra Mercury on Tuesday broke the news that the staff had been "stood down", the team's ownership of Simon Stratford had essentially collapsed and the NBL was on the search for a new owner for the club.
Firstly, let's be clear about this.
This collapse has not been brought about by the COVID-19 crisis. It hasn't helped for sure, but this has been coming a long way off.
Let that be very clear.
As Hawks fans, we have become unfortunately accustomed to the Hawks fight for survival over the years.
So we naturally assume the worst. But what if instead this presents an opportunity?
What if this enables a phoenix to rise form the ashes of the current situation.
The NBL says its committed to finding a solution for the National Basketball League's last remaining foundation club and we will hold them to that.
There are and there have been interested parties in taking the ownership of the club.
Yes this is a time of chaos yet again for the much loved franchise. Yet it is also a time of opportunity.
It is obviously a heart-breaking time for the club's staff and for the players as well, though the players will continue to be paid, but who knows what tomorrow brings?
More often than not, tomorrow brings a new dawn.
A new dawn is exactly what the Illawarra Hawks need right now.
