A spokesperson for KFC said quick action was taken after the alarm was raised.
"On Wednesday evening we were informed that a team member from our Fairy Meadow restaurant had unfortunately tested positive for COVID-19," the spokesperson said.
"The team member, who has not worked since last Friday, has been isolated and is currently being cared for in the best possible way.
"We have been working with NSW Health, and all other team members who have come into close contact with this person are also in self-isolation.
"As a precautionary measure we've thoroughly cleaned and disinfected the restaurant, and reopened once we were fully certain that there were no health risks for either our customers or team members".
The Illawarra Mercury has contacted NSW Health for comment and is waiting on a response.
