The latest seasons of shows like The Bachelor, Survivor and Real Housewives of Melbourne have all been put on hold due to restrictions around gatherings.
Yes, this might seem to be an upside because those shows are terrible (and I'm still scratching my head as to how MasterChef managed to complete filming before the restrictions kicked in) but they also employ people behind the scenes.
There's also the fact that, without these shows, the channels that air them have to find something else to fill in the blanks.
For us, the viewers, that raises the possibility of finding the schedule clogged with repeats, or endless episodes of Border Security or RBT (because they're not already on more than they should be).
I feel especially sorry for Nine and Fox League - they do quite nicely out of televising the footy and now they've got no footy.
Rather than pull up stumps for a while, they've chose to bash together some footy content to fill the holes - and ensure we don't forget just who screens the league.
Nine is on the right path with its replacement, while Fox League's is just so incredibly wrong.
Nine has cobbled together The Greatest - which looks back at some of the best grand finals or Origin matches over the years.
It's a half-decent effort - especially when they use modern-day technology to analyse plays and get players from the games to talk through what was happening.
Though I could have done without the long segment about Ray Warren - never understood why we should care about a commentator. Who tunes into the footy because of the commentator?
Over on Fox League they have hours of air time to fill - even after you count the endless repeats of every show featuring Matthew Johns.
Their solution? Air old games but replace the original commentary with new commentary, thereby adding nothing to the game.
Talk about fixing something that wasn't broken. What is even dumber is they then pretend as though the match is live, as though I can't just Google the result.
What is the point of taking a product and making it worse?
