While the suspension of the A-League season has exposed a number of issues, the competition had been struggling for a while.

With all sport across the country currently suspended, Wilkshire said now is an opportunity for organisers to take a look at the makeup of the A-League.

"The A-League wasn't flying going into this, now it will take a hit," Wilkshire said.

"It's going to be a new era. I believe good, bad and ugly things happen for a reason. This is a chance to reset and reboot."

The spread of COVID-19 has thrown plans for future expansion and a second division into disarray, with significant uncertainty now facing the sport.

While this may have a negative impact on the Wolves hopes of moving into a national league, Wilkshire remains confident his club is in a good position.

"It's a major blow for us. You look at Macarthur, they were meant to be coming into the league next year.

"Who knows what will happen moving forward. We don't know what could come, it could benefit us. It depends on what comes out the other side, we'll just have to wait and see."
