Kevin Fallon from the family run zoo at Helensburgh said the initiative particularly targets children social distancing at home.
He said it would also be a chance to talk to the animals when children are unable to experience the same kind of school holiday they would normally enjoy in coming weeks.
Mr Fallon said 'Letters of Happiness' was a chance to bring a little sunshine to their life during the coronavirus lockdown.
He said all children and their parents have to do is log onto Facebook to find the link where they can write their favourite animal a letter and receive an instant and personalised 'Letter of Happiness' back.
"It is a great education tool to get them writing," he said.
Mr Fallon said it was a little like sending a letter to Santa nad having him write back straight away.
"We had 1350 people log onto it in the first 12 hours," he said.
