The young women, Holly Powers, Maddison Day and Mariah Powell, along with another one of Butler's friends, Matthew Ryan, plead guilty to a lesser charge of hinder apprehension of a person who committed serious indictable offence in Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday.
The group were originally charged with being accessories after the fact of murder.
Mr Merrett, also known as Daniel Clulow, 27, was killed on May 18 last year after the car he was a passenger in collided with a petrol tanker causing it to lift from the ground and land on him.
He died at the scene from head and brain injuries while Mr Merrett's sister, and two other passengers were seriously injured.
Police allege Darren Butler, 27, along with co-accused Andrew Russell and Holly Green were in a car chasing the group over a $150 debt. It is alleged Russell was firing shots at the car moments before the crash.
The trio fled the crash site and went on the run with Butler using his friends to avoid police capture.
In agreed facts tendered to court, the young women knew Butler was "getting done for murder" and were warned by police that if they knew Butler's whereabouts and did not tell them then they could face charges.
However, the trio still helped him.
Day and Powers booked a hotel room at Jamberoo Resort where for Butler on May 20, but it was raided before Butler could stay there.
Later that day police also searched the homes of Day and Powers, "looking for old mate".
"They come to my house looking for him and Russell," Powers told a friend. "If I have any contact with him or if I evade him or whatever then I get done for accessory this and that rah rah rah...But yeah they want him."
Both woman denied contacting him or knowing where he was hiding, as a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The next day Butler went to Powell's house where a friend of hers gave Butler a lift before he allegedly stole the Nissan Navara, which was reported to police.
Butler allegedly used the stolen car to travel to Melbourne before he sold it to a stranger.
On May 21, Butler called Powers to ask why the car owner had reported it stolen saying get someone "to cave his head in" and "they're gunna find out where I am now" prompting Powers to say "what do you need me to do?"
An unknown caller later phoned Powers who was with the owner of the Nissan Navara and Day.
Day encouraged him to sign a note saying he had sold the car to Butler for $10,000 after the caller threatened, "if you don't your family's gone".
Powell called Powers to make sure the male friend had transferred ownership of the car to Butler.
"Can you lease make sure he does it babe like seriously we need to do it...it also covers his tracks too," she said.
Day also agreed to give Butler $100 as he had run out of petrol and needed money with Day saying "I don't even have any money. But I will give it to ya".
"Tell Holly, she got paid too, tell her to f*****g give me her pay," Butler said.
On May 23, Powell drove to Melbourne in a white utility van to give Butler and Green the car.
The next day, police intercepted the car in Yass but Butler and Green were no longer in the vehicle. However, police found letters from both of them addressed to their families which were seized along with the car.
A couple of days later on May 25, Powers told Butler over the phone that she would get the suitcase of clothes from his house to give to him when they met up.
The next day Butler called his girlfriend to tell her he was at Day's house and was going inside to "grab em [the rocks (methylamphetamine)]".
However, there was friction in their relationship with Butler accusing Powers of "jumping ship" later that night.
"You're f*****g on the run with another girl (Holly Green), like what do you want me to f*****g think," she said.
Prompting Butler to allegedly say, "if you was in the car too you'd be in the car too. You know what I mean...She was in the car when the f*****g accident happened".
"I can't get over how fast you jumped ship. I knew you would not wait for me. It's all good," Butler said in a text message.
With Powers responding, "I haven't jumped no ship...but you haven't cared enough to even ask about me....All I have wanted to do is help you."
On May 30, Butler was with Matthew Ryan when Powers agreed to meet them at Westfield Figtree.
The trio then led police on a dramatic car chase through the backstreets of Figtree, with Butler driving, before he crashed the vehicle into a small creek.
After a short foot chase, Butler was arrested in a Govett Crescent backyard by the Dog Squad unit.
Powers and Ryan were also arrested at the scene.
Following further inquiries, police went to Day's house on July 8 where she armed herself with a knife and said, "I'm not going to jail", holding it against her throat and stomach claiming she would stab herself in a siege that last 50 minutes.
She was arrested, taken to hospital for a mental health assessment before being charged.
Powell was arrested on August 21.
Powers, Day and Powell will be sentenced in Wollongong District Court at a date still be set.
Butler and Russell, who are both charged with murder, and Green, who is charged with hindering apprehension, are yet to enter pleas.
