The 'Anzac Day 2020 Illawarra Digger Drop Off' is an initiative being launched by East Corrimal community advocate Leigh Stewart.
With the support of sponsors and the general community, a 'respect package' will be dropped at front doors of our diggers Illawarra wide on Anzac Day.
"Many of these amazing Australians, due to their age are self-isolating and for the first time in their lifetime will be forced to stay at home and not be involved in Anzac Day activities," Mr Stewart said.
Mr Stewart said the various Illawarra RSL Sub-Branches were providing names and contact details of veterans who could be included.
He expected they would deliver more than 600 respect packages to those who had served (or their families), in conflicts ranging from World War II to Afghanistan and Iraq.
The 'respect packages' are expected to include a meal, pack of Tim Tams, Anzac biscuits and two rolls of toilet paper, among other items.
"A letter of thanks will be also put in all packages thanking our veterans for what they have done for their country," Mr Stewart said.
Mr Stewart said a series of Illawarra businesses had pledged to support the initiative by providing various items - either donated or heavily discounted - such as meals, treats and beverages.
Among them is His & Hers cafe at Corrimal, who will be donating hundreds of special treats for the hampers.
Co-owner Martine Hadfield said they would be providing raspberry and white chocolate muffins, carrot cake muffins and mini pavlovas.
"My husband is extremely passionate about the Anzacs," she said.
"Him and my oldest daughter have been to Gallipoli, and I'm supposed to be going in September with my husband and two boys.
"We just decided to give back to the community, to the diggers.
"We wanted to say thank you, and let them know that we're all still thinking about them, even if we won't be able to do anything really this year."
The respect packages will be delivered by a team of volunteers to recipients' homes on Anzac Day in a "careful" manner that respected social distancing.
Mr Stewart said they were seeking sponsors, businesses to donate items, and also volunteers to distribute the packages.
Members of the public can also donate, or purchase a respect package for someone who has served.
