The move is expected to be particularly popular leading up to Mother's Day when it won't be possible to take mums out for a fine dining experience at their favourite eatery.
The Lagoon is providing free delivery in the Wollongong local government area for its famous seafood platters.
We want to tap into that niche market of people who still want good fresh seafood. We want to focus on top quality meals.
- Andrew Harrison
General manager Andrew Harrison said the restaurant wanted to provide a delivery service for fine dining meals.
"We want to tap into that niche market of people who still want good fresh seafood," Mr Harrison said.
"We want to focus on top quality meals. Seafood platters are available for non-contact delivery in the Wollongong area. We specify suburbs on our website we are delivering to. It is free delivery for anything over $50 which covers all seafood platter orders".
Mr Harrison said Mother's Day was always a particularly food occasion at the Lagoon so the restaurant has put together a Mother's Day package to continue that tradition. It is available for mums at home with the family and those in isolation at this time.
"It is already providing popular. It is a seafood platter that comes with salad, a bottle of wine and some garlic bread".
The Lagoon website is being updated so the Mother's Day Package can be ordered online.
Mr Harrison said Bourke Street Burgers reopened on Wednesday and is doing free home delivery for all orders over $20 as well as takeaway.
"They can come into the store and order and pay there as well".
Mr Harrison said JobKeeper was a lifeline for the Lagoon which struggled initially with takeaway because of its isolated location when everyone was asked to stay at home.
But now with JobKeeper and slight easing of restrictions the eatery is able to provide work for 70 of its staff.
Mr Harrison said the initial response to social media posts was huge. He said it seems many people have a craving for the seafood platters the restaurant is famous for.
He said it felt quite strange to finally have some cashflow coming in.
"JobKeeper has been like a lifeline. It has kept .70 people in a job and the response among staff has been very positive. They all want to chip in. It is our staff who will be delivering. Many want to do it in their Lagoon uniform".
