When it came time to write and record a follow-up to the song recently, the members were in lockdown.
"One of the lyrics in the new song is (about) how you can 'forget conspiracy theories', because the virus is actually real," bassist/vocalist Chris Rand said.
"The virus is a real situation, there are people around the world dying and suffering.
"But it seems to me, the response towards it, there's elements within governments that are enjoying the control aspect of it."
The sequel in question is titled Blood on the Sixth.
Rand and Chris 'Sven' Sellin (guitars) began writing the song less than two weeks ago.
However, the current pandemic forced Segression to adopt a fresh approach to writing and recording.
"We haven't been able to rehearse together, so we had to do everything separately," Rand said. "It's a completely different process to what we've ever done before.
"This was recorded, mixed and mastered by us... No external hands have touched this song.
"Everything has been done within the confines of the band."
The band has long envisioned recording a sequel to the track Fifth of the Fifth.
However, the new song has been in the pipeline for about a year, before members began exchanging ideas a couple of weeks ago.
"It was quite an intense process, but when you're in lockdown and got not much else to do, you can throw every waking moment into it," Rand said.
Blood on the Sixth will be released via streaming platforms this week, hopefully on Wednesday, aka the "sixth of the fifth".
During their initial run from 1996-2003, Segression supported heavyweight international acts such as Ozzy Osbourne, Pantera, Slipknot, Fear Factory and Soulfly.
The band later went on a hiatus that officially lasted until 2009.
Since reconvening, they've issued the Never Dead and Painted In Blood albums.
