The polar blast across both days last weekend saw the heavy coats pulled out.
Although conditions weren't kind for the fishing fraternity, it had a lot of anglers quietly happy for a stir up after a month off flat conditions and little water movement.
The blackfish fishos got stuck into some nice bronzed brawlers last weekend and the start of this week with the swell pushing good numbers of these species into the sheltered harbours and bays.

Bellambi, Shellharbour and inner Wollongong harbours had good numbers of blackfish congregating in the calmer waters and with ample weed about the place, it wasn't hard to get your bag of fish.
For those not wanting to chase the natural green weed, artificial weed flies were the go to alternative.
Fish to 1.2 kilograms were taken at various locations and once you had them feeding in the burley trail, it was short work to get your bag.
The snapper bite should be great in close over the next few days as the sea abates and we should see some great fish taken off the stones as well as in the boats.
There has been plenty of reports of big cuttlefish moving in on the closer reefs as they get ready for their annual spawning season and as we all know when they move in and spawn and die, the big reds also move in for an easy feed.
Beaches and rocks should keep fishing quite satisfactorily after this stir up for all manner of species including the reds that will be on a lot of rock fishos minds with the bump experienced last weekend.
Same conditions will attract drummer, blackfish and bream as they all feed on the plethora of food dislodged by the swell.
Some nice new gutters have been formed on some beaches.
With plenty of fish in close and with the water temperature dropping, we should start to see some bigger mulloway moving about for those keen to rug up and fish hard through the cooler months.
