The Illawarra Wingecarribee Alliance Aboriginal Corporation has been delivering food and household items.
The not-for-profit community charity was to distribute about 80 boxes on Thursday and Friday throughout the Illawarra and Wingecarribee.
The boxes contained donated and heavily discounted items such as bread, pasta, vegetables, coffee, tea, hand sanitizer and washing powder.
IWAAC chair Geoff Maher said they were being distributed to members of the indigenous community, including Aboriginal Elders, people living with disability and disadvantaged families.
The distribution of items was a collaboration between the NSW Government, IWAAC and the indigenous community.
"The majority of our people live along the coastline... There's a lot of elderly people along the coast and disadvantaged people along the coast, and I don't want them forgotten," Mr Maher said.
"We want to give them a helping hand. It's something to help our people through COVID while they're in lockdown."
Among the recipients on Thursday was Aboriginal Elder Ruth Leon, 67.
Aunty Ruth lives in the Aboriginal Elders village at Primbee.
She said the items would be most helpful, estimating it would help tide her over for about a fortnight.
"It's a really big help," she said.
Aunty Ruth said it had been "a bit of a struggle" to obtain some basic food and household items during the lockdown period.
"Thankfully I've got a car to get around in, but then again you've got to come up with petrol," she said.
"I wouldn't say it was really bad (for me), but every bit helps. All the support helps.
"I'd say other Elders would be in the same situation as me. We're all on pensions, but we all have bills to pay as well.
"It leaves us with just enough to get by for the fortnight, so this will tide us over for a few weeks."
The IWAAC is planning to conduct further deliveries in the coming weeks.
