Flagstaff Group chief executive Roy Rogers said more than 100,000 meals were made in April at Unanderra.
"We despatched over 103,000 meals. We normally do 65,000 to 70,000 meals a month," Mr Rogers said..
"We have had three people manning the phones just to take the orders"
Mr Rogers said Flagstaff Fine Foods works with the IRT Group and many meals went to in home care clients. They also went to Meals On Wheels as well as NDIS participants.
"We have a growing number of clients at home," Mr Rogers said.
"We have our own trucks on the road and two vans delivering down as far as Yass, Goulburn and the Southern Highlands".
Mr Rogers said making so many more meals meant Flagstaff Fine Foods needed to put on an additional shift to increase food production capacity by 40 per cent. That is where skilled kitchen staff from Wests Illawarra were able help.
When Dan Burns realised addressing the supply shortage could lead to the re-employment of some staff stood-down due to the temporary closure of Wests he reached out to Aster Group food beverage executive Yianni Barthelmess.
Working together they re-employed five Wests Illawarra kitchen team members who, along with the Flagstaff team, produce between 2000 and 3000 meals each night shift for Meals on Wheels and aged care providers.
Mr Burns and Mr Barthelmess are both involved with the Leadership Illawarra Program and their idea was the inspiration for a new 'Mateship is Contagious' Facebook group for people to place positive posts during the coronavirus crisis.
