National cabinet will meet on Friday and is expected to ease an array of social distancing restrictions, which will be welcomed across the country.
While the guidance will come from a national level, it will then fall on each state to decide how, if and when it rolls out the easing of those guidelines.
In her press conference on Thursday, Premier Gladys Berejiklian foreshadowed she would most likely to have to be a grinch on Mother's Day weekend.
"Without wanting to be the bearer of bad news, can I say that while national cabinet is considering easing some restrictions from Friday in terms of the national guidelines, I doubt very much that NSW will be in a position to implement anything before Mother's Day," Ms Berejiklian said.
"I just wanted to make that clear, having said that, please know that two adults and children can visit any mother at any one time and a mother can accept multiple visits a day so long as there's not too many people for each visit."
We've waited this long, we can wait for another weekend.
It is likely NSW will move to lessening the restrictions next week but it will remain something which is always subject to change.
Our need to social distance won't change and our need to act responsibly won't change.
However, slowly you can see things starting to relax.
It is without doubt, regardless of political persuasion or bias, this country has done a remarkable job in ensuring the nation had the best possible chance to quickly come through this.
We now know a lot more about COVID-19 and we are better placed to tackle outbreaks as and when they occur.
But please, if you are showing any symptoms at all, get tested.
