Australia's only manufacturer of high performance quenched and tempered plate steel products is marking its 40th birthday in 2020.
And is using the occasion to celebrate successfully proving the long-term competitiveness of local specialty steel manufacturing.
Bisalloy began operations in Wollongong in 1980, and quickly forged a reputation throughout Australia and the world for its market-leading high wear and high strength Bisalloy branded products.
It listed on the ASX in 2003 and now boasts some of the world's leading mining, quarrying and exploration companies, industrial and commercial equipment manufacturers and defence organisations among its clients who use a range of the company's steel products.
Bisalloy employs more than 80 people in the Illawarra and another 160 overseas who service the Australian and international market.
To facilitate its ongoing growth the company has majority-owned distribution channels in Indonesia and Thailand, as well as distribution networks in the United Arab Emirates, South Africa and in China.
Bisalloy Steels' penetration into the Asian market was strengthened in 2011 when the company established a 50/50 joint venture with Shandong Steel.
That made Bisalloy Shangang (Shandong) the sixth largest steel company in China, and the second largest premium quench and tempered brand in China for wear and structural steel markets.
Bisalloy also has established product supply partnerships in Europe, Scandinavia and North America.
From its Australian production site at Unanderra the business has the capacity to produce over 60,000 tonnes per annum, with all products exceeding Global International Quality and Testing standards.
Along with its facility in Chine the Illawarra based production facility also has International certification for Safety and Environmental Management.
Managing director Greg Albert said the company's innovation, dedicated and talented staff and loyal customer base were among the reasons for Bisalloy Steel's ongoing success.
"Achieving 40 years in business is a wonderful milestone and as a company we're immensely proud to have an Australian manufacturing base that produces world-class products," Mr Albert said.
"Over the years we've worked hard to adapt to market needs and have developed a range of products that are extremely well regarded and trusted by our customers across a range of industries.
"Our high-strength steels have enabled our customers to design products that would not have otherwise been possible.
Mr Albert said Bisalloy Steels thanked all its customers for their continued support.
He also thanked all employees for their work ethic, strong values and focus on safety.
Debra Murphy, of RDA Illawarra, said Bisalloy's success over 40 years and BlueScope's success over 90 years demonstrated Illawarra's strength and breadth in steel manufacturing.
"Advanced manufacturing is a key pillar of the Illawarra's economy and it's great to celebrate Bisalloy Steels milestone," Ms Murphy said.
"Bisalloy is Australia's only manufacturer of high performance quenched and tempered plate steel products.
"Bisalloy is a truly innovative company which produces high strength steels for mining, manufacturing and defence industries in local and international markets, and we're pleased they are an integral part of our Illawarra advanced manufacturing sector".
