Emergency services were called to the rest area on the notorious stretch of road in the early hours of the morning.
Kiama SES volunteers worked alongside the Illawarra Police Rescue squad to set up a roping system to abseil over the bushy embankment.
The driver managed to free himself, while the rescue team checked the vehicle and surrounds for other occupants.
