Just before 3pm, Ambulance NSW crews responded to reports that a young child had fallen over a drop at City Beach.
Officers on scene said the six-year-old was conscious and responding normally after falling off a grassy area and onto the rock shelf below.
She had a cut and bump to the head as well as a possible pelvic injury, but did not lose consciousness, and her relatives who witnessed the incident went to her rescue immediately.
The Ambulance NSW rescue helicopter was initially called to the scene, but was called off.
The girl was being transported to Wollongong hospital by road ambulance.
