NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian declared she deemed the Sydney protests "illegal", this was after NSW Police originally gave the planned protest tacit approval.

It came out on Friday NSW Police was taking the organisers to the Supreme Court to try and halt them after fears the numbers for the event were swelling.

Well, really?

What did you really think was going to happen when this is an important cause which is receiving a groundswell of support across the globe at a critical juncture in world history.

If any government or police force was going to use the pandemic as an excuse to try and stop these protests then it should have been done from the outset, not on the eve of the events.

It is hard not to look at it cynically as a knee-jerk response to community concern about the protests.

Let's hope those voicing their concerns about the protests are not the ones milling around shopping centres, beaches, recreation spots or central business districts.

This situation highlights the exact problem of trying to have a foot in both camps during the pandemic restrictions _ on one hand allowing full-scale contact sport to be televised into our lounge rooms, while on the other hand warning the community about a second wave of coronavirus.

This is a cause people wish to make their voices heard on. Understandably.

Not for just what is happening in America but also for what is happening right here in our own country.

The push to stop these protest will no doubt only steel the resolve of those passionate about the cause to make their voices unite.

Please whatever the outcome, let level heads prevail.

This is too much of an important cause to get lost in a sea of controversy.

Protest, but protest peacefully and keep the focus on the issues that surround Black Lives Matter both here and abroad.
