The 24-year-old was found in bushland about one kilometre west of O'Briens Road at Figtree, about 6.20pm.
Officers from Wollongong Police District made the discovery. They believe the man lost control of his motorcycle and collided with a tree while riding alone.
Paramedics attended, but he died at the scene.
Emergency services visited the Kean residence for a gate key to access the crash site, which sits in bushland popular among downhill riders.
Resident Paul Kean expressed his sympathies for the man and his family.
"It's pretty sad to hear that a 24-year-old lost his life, just enjoying what he likes doing," he said.
"Motorbikes frequently come up here and they're normally pretty well-behaved. When they pass our place they slow down, they're quite respectful.
"Motorbikes, mountain bike riders, walkers - all sorts of poeple enjoy using O'Briens Road and it's just sad to hear. It will affect everybody who uses this road."
Wollongong Police District's Inpspector Angela Burnell said a report was being prepared for the coroner.
"It's a tragic set of circumstances," she said.
"Ride with a mate. Make sure somone knows where you're going."
