Lake Illawarra Police executed a search warrant at the 43-year-old man's home about 11.30am on Tuesday where officers seized computer towers, laptops, portable hard drives, USBs and SD cards.
Police will allege one of the computers contained a large amount of child abuse material.
A short time later, police attended a business where the man was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station.
He was charged with one count of possessing child abuse material and using a carriage services to access child abuse material.
The man was granted police bail and will appear at Wollongong Local Court on September 8.
