That is our job and core mission, which remains unchanged even as our world changes around us.
On Friday night we will launch the Illawarra Mercury's new Facebook group page, Illawarra Mercury Courts and Crime.
Our challenge and obligation in this increasingly digital world is deliver the news to readers in different and varied ways.
One of the ways we do that is on our social media platforms.
This new platform will allow us to deliver, in a dedicated site, all of the courts and crime news in one place.
It will allow us to limit comments which would ordinarily make sharing this type of news difficult on a open platform.
It will also allow us to provide insights, updates and news as it happens across our region.
Why should you join our new page?
Because there is no voice like a trusted voice. It's not gossip, it's not secondhand information shared over the back fence.
We are in court almost every day and our coverage is led by award-winning court reporter Shannon Tonkin with support from our team of dedicated journalists based right here in the Illawarra.
We want to share information with you - and not just the headlines.
They story behind the story.
We want to take you to places we go that maybe you can't or you just don't have the time.
And, when we can, we want to keep you updated - follow through with what happened next.
We will also deliver it in the most timely fashion possible.
And that might not mean in a heartbeat - because getting the right information is more important than getting the fastest information.
To join this group after Friday night search Facebook for "Illawarra Mercury Courts and Crime" or follow the link on our main Facebook page.
