Hosted by Michael Hing, the series looks at migrant communities in regional Australia.
In the Illawarra, he visits the Serbian Orthodox Church, talks to a father and son who work at the Port Kembla steelworks and gets a run with the Albion Park White Eagles football team.
That there was such a strong community in the Illawarra did come as a bit of a surprise to Hing, who grew up in the southern Sydney suburb of Illawong.
"Having spent huge portions of my teenage years visiting friends in Wollongong, I had no idea of the Yugoslav history," Hing said.
"I even had Eastern European friends who were from Wollongong and I had no idea about all that. In retrospect the fact that I had a bunch of Eastern European friends who lived in Wollongong should have given me clues."
The show airs on SBS on Tuesday at 9.35pm.
