The two long-standing member-owned clubs have been involved in nine months of consultation and planning.
The decision to amalgamate was voted unanimously for the Wollongong Golf Club, established in 1897, to partner with Wollongong City Diggers Club to ensure the future of both organisations.
City Diggers president Richard Young said the amalgamation will ensure a sustainable relationship within the community the club has supported for the past 100 years.
Wollongong Golf Club president Adam Giddings described it as a fantastic result that will guarantee the longevity of the two iconic independent member-owned organisations in Wollongong.
He said the decision enables the amalgamated entity to continue to service and support the local community.
Wollongong Golf Club general manager Leigh Hingston described it as big news.
He said golf club members voted unanimously for the amalgamation on Thursday night.
