The event will be split across two locations, with the NSW Junior Titles in Coffs Harbour from August 5-12 before the Grommet Titles take place at Maroubra Beach on August 14-16.

The surfing calendar has been thrown into flux as a result of coronavirus, with the usual regional qualification to state abandoned.

That, however, has led to the expectation of unprecedented entrants for the NSW titles and Illawarra Sports High surfing coach Geoff Latimer said there will be no easy heats at the event.

"Everyone's going to be hungry," Latimer said. "Normally we have that natural selection process of qualifying and moving up the ranks.

"The heats are going to be quite chaotic, with people from everywhere. People will be rusty, but it is the event that qualifies you for Aussies, so you have to be straight into top form."

The athletes have been fortunate enough to continue surfing throughout the COVID-19 shutdown. Formal training programs largely ceased, however, with Latimer getting creative to continue aiding his athletes.

"When the schools were shutdown, no sport was officially allowed to run. A lot of our surfers were taking it on their own bat, doing practice in the water daily.

"We'd have a quick chat at school or on Zoom to set individual tasks and goals. With school a bit more normal now, we're not training totally normally, but we've been able to access to beach and ramp it up."
